Brisbane Heat, Big Storms & Even Bigger Hugs
Our first ever blog video makes its debut — Cotty captured a time-lapse of a storm that just skirted past us. The earlier one that day wasn’t so polite: it came with hail. The one on Monday trapped us in a shopping mall for hours!
This week we got to spend some lovely time with family and friends. On Monday we hung out with my cousin Katerina and saw my Thia Marika, with a bit of admin squeezed in between.
On Tuesday we met up with my brother Noel, who drove us out to Victoria Point to visit my cousins Kosta and Phyllis; while there I managed to finish a bit of crafting I’d brought along :D. We even squeezed in a wonderful 5 km bike ride with Phyllis along the waterfront before raiding their wonderful veggie garden.
Wednesday was a big day out. We had a delicious lunch meet-up and sky walk with my friend Michael, who treated us to a delightful meal up high. After lunch we hopped on the City Cat ferry for a little river cruise to see the city from the water. Brisbane transit is incredible — you can do an entire day’s worth of travel for 50 cents AUD! When we got back to Rachelle’s, we all walked over to the mall to try the TH7 Spa: 20 minutes in the steam room, then into a very cool pool (painful), then a warm pool (lovely). I even braved the ice bath — and actually liked it! I could almost get all the way in!
Thursday we hid from the heat and then went out for a family dinner at my cousins Ginia and Bob’s place, and we even got to see Vince. Noel ended up buying a band saw that completely filled his diesel Honda Civic, which meant we lost our ride to Noosa to visit cousin Ben and family.
Friday was a long day of travel — Rachelle offered her help with a rescue mission to recover Cotty’s AirPods from Vince’s vehicle where they had slipped out of his pocket the night before. After saying goodbye to Rachelle and Enola, we began the journey to Noosa: three trains and a bus with a failing air conditioning system. All for under $1 CAD, but it took forever, and if I was hot and sweating on the bus, everyone else must have been dying!
Eventually we made it in time to see Ben’s boys sailing on the river, followed by a takeaway picnic in the picturesque riverside park. When we finally reached Ben’s house, we jumped straight into the freshwater pool, which was absolutely perfect — sooooooo lovely and warm. The next morning I was right back in for laps (short but wonderful) followed by an outdoor shower. We would have happily spent the entire day in the pool — it was HOT — but we needed to dry out our swimmers before our flight to Tasmania that afternoon.
Thankfully, Ben saved the day with a delightful ride in his gorgeous new Tesla all the way to the airport. The flight was uneventful, and now we’re excited for our short but lovely Tasmania time ahead.
