evolution

what we do and why

In general when you think of going on a trip you likely think:

book a ticket

book accom

go

enjoy
I tend to approach the travel animal from a different angle. I think what's left on the list and how much can I see while it's still there. I like to think of this as the "Venice is sinking" syndrome. I also now know that even though you think you may "get to it one day" chances are you won't so sometimes literally just seeing something for a short while can be very satisfying. My truth is, I would love to go everywhere - live there and experience it as a local would. My reality is I live in Vancouver and run my own small business and have found a way to feed my truth while living in my reality. This is how "the sampler" evolved. In 2007 I wrote to my friend Katja who I met while traveling in Oz and said I was thinking of going to Europe and would she like to meet me in Paris? She responded come meet me in Germany - I was if I was going to fly into Frankfurt I wanted to go to see Berlin. It was right around here the conversation got out of hand.

I then said if we were going to go to Berlin we should go to Prague as I had been there but really wanted to see it again - please keep in mind I was not looking at a map while sending these emails ;)

Next I said and if we go to Prague we "should really see Venice before it sinks" and if we go to Venice - we should definitely go to Barcelona  - because I really want to see the Gaudi. Katja, of course thought I was mad - but she was in :) trouble was she only had so much vacation so our mad destination list only allowed us 1.5 - 2 days max in each place. We were going to have to boogie through the list, and we did - in fine style - learning a lot in the process! I ended up tacking on 3 days in London and a week in Paris Normandy to the end of that trip and the whole thing is one of my favourite travel memories. Partly because of how kooky it was and partly because I did get to see and experience a lot and well now Venice is free to sink, though in truth, I would go back there if I get the chance - lol

This year we are trying to see a lot of things on this continent in our small window of opportunity in our small car.

We really got into random camping a  couple of years ago and it has evolved into not really camping - more random sleeping. We do enjoy our sleeping but also need to cover some of the vast distances in short amounts of time -  we shift sleep and random sleep in the car. Last years trip we managed to set up a pretty good system where we were relatively comfortable but this year we took it to a whole new level - literally. We build a sleeping platform IN THE GOLF. Essentially turning the 2006 VW golf into a campervan - without the standing up inside feature - and no pop up roof.

The platform allows us to have three compartments underneath so we can have a kitchen complete with table fridge and stove! and we each get our own room so we don't have to worry about each other's vastly different organizational styles ;)

here are pics of concept into development - we will try to show you in use pics along the way!
