Quokkas, Catch-Ups & One Iconic Wave
We woke up in a cute holiday cabin in Hyden and lingered as long as we could before heading over to Wave Rock, which was really close by. The rock itself was very cool, but to be truthful, the flies were unbelievably aggressive — once you’re away from the coast and out of that lovely warm breeze, they mean business.
After that, it was an easy drive back to Perth, where we freshened up and headed out to meet an online friend in real life. He’s now officially a friend-friend, and we’re already looking forward to more adventures with him in the future. :)
Today was our last WA day, and we spent it visiting the quokkas on Rottnest Island, soaking up a final dose of sunshine, and even doing a bit of snorkelling before dreading our red-eye flight to Brissy. Once back to Perth, we returned the Greyo Pango, offering a ceremonious pat for all its hard work. Then we walked to the airport, still chuckling about the Dutch observation that quokkas are basically ROUS — Rodents of Unusual Size — and, having seen them up close, I must admit they have a point.
After arriving in Brisbane, we settled into some lovely accommodation with an equally lovely friend — the perfect place to recover. Once we felt human again, we headed into Brisbane for a bit of admin and a gentle re-entry into city life.
