Day 0 + 1 - Vancouver to Montana
On Sunday morning we were aware that there were still many things to be taken care of. Judi put on a cooking performance of historic proportions. Cotty dealt with dozens of little things. Mikel and Kel stopped by with their buddy Jeff. They are storing some furniture and plants with us for a few weeks until they move. They were nice enough to pick up a little cabinet from the alley and bring it back for Andrea.Soon after that it was time to start cooking for Andrew and Jordan who were scheduled to arrive at 7pm. Cotty made a two course seafood-centric meal: greek salad with herbs from the garden and marinated BBQ squid and pan seared scallop prawn sesame ginger noodle bowl with mango and avocado. Dessert was grilled pineapple with coconut whipped cream and fresh raspberries. Yum! After dinner Cotty polished the rest of the jewellery, Brandon planned out the wiring for a new light near the front door, and Judi worked on transferring Harry Potter books to iTunes. It was late by the time we got to bed and we planned to get up around 5am.As expected 5am came far too early and it was back to the grind. Cotty and Brandon waterproofed the wood for the even design booth and secured it to the roof rack. Judi packed the gnu like a boss. We dropped Brandon off at the ferry by 8am and proceeded to hit a major road block at the border. We admitted that we had jewellery with us and got a lecture regarding commercial goods entering the USA. We wasted further time in a lineup inside the border office at which point we resigned to the extra cost of shipping the jewellery to Ontario. Judi boxed up our wares and shipped them from a postal outlet in White Rock. We got back to the peace arch border to face a lineup that looked about an hour long. This was the third burn of the morning and we were beginning to get discouraged. It was almost noon by the time we fueled up in Blaine and hit the I-5 South. This was 3-4 hours later than we were hoping for when we awoke at 5am.We are in Montana now and the sun has just set. We had nice weather today so it was a really pleasant drive. On the menu at the bug-free rest stop was seared tuna with black bean noodles, greens from the garden, and sautéed red cabbage. Dessert was fresh coconut and vanilla rooibus tea.
