Henges and Hugs
We kind of went to Stonehenge. One of the world’s most iconic prehistoric monuments, it’s a mysterious ring of massive stones, believed to be over 4,000 years old. No one really knows its true purpose, but its ancient alignment and monumental presence still manage to fascinate—even from the gift shop - haha.
We were absolutely loving on the stones here. Avebury may be less famous than Stonehenge, but it’s even larger—and the massive stone circle actually wraps around part of the village itself. Wandering freely among these ancient Neolithic giants felt like stepping back in time, without the ropes or the crowds!
Cotty often heard his mum and grandma refer to it as the “Sally Ann,” so he was pretty excited to spot it called that in real life. A sweet little moment of connection across generations.
The Roman Baths in Bath are a beautifully preserved ancient bathing complex built around natural hot springs nearly 2,000 years ago. You can’t take a dip, but wandering through the steamy ruins gives a fascinating glimpse into Roman life and luxury. If you are willing to stand in a long queue and pay $$$ that is ;) haha
Thorpe Cloud is a distinctive limestone hill marking the gateway to Dovedale in the Peak District. The Peak District itself is England’s first national park, known for its dramatic landscapes, rolling hills, and charming stone villages—perfect for a delightful day out with my lovely niece.
A bit too chilly for us but several others were enjoying a refreshing dip.
